Welcome
Zimbali Country Club Opens 18 Beautiful Greens

The superb 18-hole championship Zimbali Country Club golf course, designed by former South African PGA and British Open Champion Tom Weiskopf, opened its new greens on 3rd February 2007. The greens have been planted with Sea Isle 2000, a salt tolerant fine-bladed paspalum cultivar that is ideal for golf course fairways, tees and roughs, and which can be irrigated using a seawater blend or even straight ocean water with the right management practices.

Andreas Wassenaar, Sales and Marketing Director of Zimbali Coastal Resort said, “The launch and opening of the new greens is significant for two reasons. Zimbali is striving to maintain and substantially better its current rating of 19th out of 450 ranked golf courses in South Africa. Equally important is the need for Zimbali to maintain its superior reputation and retain its integrity as a world-class facility on every level. The upgrade of the greens is very much in keeping with the estate ethic and is a decision which will ensure we manage our position as ‘Best Golf Development – South Africa 2006’, as awarded at London’s International Property Awards.”

Designed specifically for use by golf cart, the Zimbali Country Club has a par 72 championship course. It combines links, coastal and parkland vegetation, and is both challenging and exceptionally beautiful. The course is renowned for its abundance of natural wet lands including streams and ponds. The dramatic changes in elevation present an extra challenge and the mature indigenous trees provide yet another dimension. The darkly rich appearance of the new greens adds very special character to both the idiosyncrasies of the course and the idyllic setting.
